Import-Export Business Turns Into a Tool of Influence! Demand for Probe into Alleged Misuse of Dual Citizenship at India-Nepal Customs and Bhansar Offices

Customs System Faces Questions Over Alleged Entry of Unauthorized Agents Using Nepali Documents

Sonauli/Maharajganj: The issue of alleged misuse of dual citizenship has created a stir at the Sonauli-Belahiya international border, one of the busiest trade routes between India and Nepal. Allegations have surfaced that some individuals are taking advantage of dual citizenship to expand their influence in the import-export business and gain access to key customs-related offices.

According to reports, the Nepal government has allowed entry into Bhansar (Customs) offices only to Nepali citizens involved in authorized activities. However, concerns have been raised over some individuals who are primarily residents of India but allegedly use Nepali identity documents and citizenship benefits to work as customs agents in Nepal.

People associated with cross-border trade claim that such practices could affect transparency and create difficulties for genuine traders and authorized agents. They have demanded a thorough verification of individuals working at customs points.

Following these concerns, the Nepal Bhansar Agent Association has reportedly written to senior authorities, seeking police verification and citizenship verification of suspicious individuals working in the customs system.

Trade representatives argue that if anyone is using dual identity or citizenship benefits against rules to influence customs operations, it could damage the credibility of the cross-border trade system and impact legitimate businesses.

Now, all eyes are on the Nepal government and concerned security agencies. A proper investigation will reveal how many people are allegedly using dual identities at the border and what action will be taken against those found violating rules.

The controversy over citizenship, trade rights, and customs operations has sparked a fresh debate in the India-Nepal border trade community.
