Sonauli/Maharajganj: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing campaign against theft-related crimes, the Sonauli Police arrested a suspected habitual thief and recovered stolen jewellery along with cash from his possession. The recovered property is linked to two separate theft cases registered at Sonauli and Nautanwa police stations.
Acting under the directions of the Station House Officer, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Umakant Saroj, along with Constables Sandeep Nishad, Anoop Mishra, and Vasudev Yadav, arrested Muin Ansari alias Tinkal (26), son of Ishaq Ahmad, a resident of Kolhui Bazaar (Aara Machine Lane), Kolhui Police Station area, Maharajganj district, from Tilhawa village in the Sonauli police station jurisdiction on Friday.
During the search, the police recovered three pairs of silver anklets, five pairs of silver toe rings, and cash amounting to ₹22,300, including ₹18,300 in Indian currency and ₹4,000 in Nepalese currency.
According to the police, the recovered items are connected to Case Crime No. 61/2026 registered at Sonauli Police Station under Sections 303(2) and 331(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Case Crime No. 39/2026 registered at Nautanwa Police Station under Sections 305 and 331(4) of the BNS.
After completing the required legal formalities, the accused was produced before the competent court in Maharajganj and remanded to judicial custody.
Police officials stated that the drive against theft and property-related crimes will continue, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved in such offences.
