Indo-Nepal Border, Sonauli
The presence of a large number of Nepal-registered rickshaws operating within the Indian border area has raised concerns regarding security and monitoring mechanisms. According to local reports, hundreds of Nepal-numbered rickshaws can be seen moving freely in the Sonauli border town, from the tempo stand up to the No-Man’s Land area, without any apparent restrictions.
It is alleged that neither the local municipal administration nor the security agencies maintain a comprehensive record of these foreign rickshaw operators. Residents argue that the absence of proper documentation and verification could pose challenges in identifying individuals in the event of any untoward incident involving domestic or foreign tourists.
Sources claim that many of these rickshaw operators remain active within Indian territory from early morning until evening. Local residents have also expressed concerns that the increasing presence of foreign-registered rickshaws without a formal registration or monitoring system may create administrative and security-related issues.
Citizens have demanded that, in the interest of public safety and security, the presence and operational details of such rickshaw operators should be properly documented by the Sonauli Nagar Panchayat and local police authorities. They believe that maintaining accurate records would help authorities identify individuals and conduct investigations more effectively if any incident occurs in the future.
Note: The concerns mentioned above are based on statements and opinions expressed by local residents. Verification of the claims and the legal status of cross-border rickshaw operations should be determined by the competent authorities.
