Kathmandu/Sunauli: Nepal has once again witnessed growing political discussions over the possible restructuring of its provincial boundaries. Political parties, constitutional experts, and public representatives have intensified debates on redrawing provincial borders and reforming the country’s federal administrative structure.According to reports, concerns over the existing provincial framework have persisted since Nepal adopted its federal system. Issues such as uneven resource distribution, administrative efficiency, and regional representation have prompted calls for revising provincial boundaries and restructuring governance to better address local needs.Political analysts believe that if the government and major political parties reach a consensus, changes to the provincial map could be introduced through a constitutional amendment. However, the Government of Nepal has not yet made any official announcement or taken a final decision regarding the proposed changes. The discussions are also being closely watched in districts along the India–Nepal border, as any alteration in provincial boundaries could have administrative and developmental implications for border regions. At present, the proposal remains at the discussion stage. Any changes to Nepal’s provincial map would require constitutional procedures, parliamentary approval, and broad political consensus before they can be implemented. An official decision from the Nepal government is still awaited.
